One possible version:
Dear Tom,
Glad to see your message. I'd like to tellyou something about the Chinese idiom tie chu mo zhen.
This legend is about Li Bai, a great poetin the Tang Dynasty. Li Bai was naughty and disliked study when he was a child. One day he saw an old woman grinding an iron rod on a big stone. Driven bycuriosity, Li Bai asked what she was doing. The old woman told him that as longas she was determined to do so she could grind so big a rod into a sewingneedle. Deeply moved by what the old woman said, Li Bai made great efforts tostudy harder.
We use this idiom to encourage people whointend to give up finishing difficult tasks to hold on because if they do thereis nothing they can't achieve.
Have I made the meaning clear? Lookingforward to your reply.
Yours,
LiHua
